The Voice Behind Single And Serving It

Confused? There isn't any food in this picture, I'm not wearing an apron, nor do I have a serving dish of any kind in my hand, so it's understandable, #poser.  I just thought you might like to know what I look like.  So there's my face.

Couple of disclaimers for the above photo:
  • My hair doesn't always look that good, but I wish it did. I had a blowout a few hours before this was taken - dear Lord do I love myself a good blowout (it usually looks more like the pic below, but I wanted to make a good first impression, they are lasting).
  • The two people that are (were) sitting on either side of me in the above photo are my friends who just passed the CA State Bar and are officially lawyers.  I didn't want to risk them suing me for posting a picture of them online.  But I do have friends.
  • Yep, it was taken at a restaurant.  I know this is a cooking and entertaining blog, but that doesn't mean that I'm a homebody.  I go out, get drinks, let someone else cook for me and look for inspiration.  You go out, too, don't kid yourself.  Adventure is out there.

Fourth of July Dessert!

Tidbits about my life:
  • My name is Susannah and I'm 25 years old (riveting).  I live in the Cow Hollow/Marina District of San Francisco and I love it.  My room isn't much bigger than my queen size bed, but I pay for location not luxurious amenities: hopefully one of these days I will get to have both...I'm dreaming of a dishwasher.
  • Speaking of, I do not have a fancy kitchen. Not one appliance is stainless steel or even close.  The temperature dial on the oven is completely unmarked so we (my roommate and I) never know what the actual temperature is, although we are convinced it fluctuates on its own anyways.  The kitchen floor slants one direction and some how the stove slants the other direction.  Tres chic.  If I can cook in my kitchen, you can definitely cook in yours.
Thar she blows.  It even looks slanted in this pic.  Ugh, uninspiring

  • I try to eat and cook healthfully, but I believe in enjoying life and splurging when you really want it, so don't judge if I post something a little gluttonous.
  • I am a HUGE sucker for farmers market.  I get that "kid in a candy store" kind of feeling and I just can't contain it.  I eat pretty seasonally because of it, but everything just.  Tastes.  So.  Good.
Those colors: so fresh, vibrant & tasty!  I love Fort Mason Farmers Market

  • My mom is a true southerner (grew up in New Orleans) and I think that I may have gotten a little piece of that "southern hospitality" gene, which would explain how I ended up wanting to start this blog.
    What a lady.  Truly inspirational.
  • I am a fitness instructor and manager at a barre studio, which balances out my love of eating pretty well.  Needless to say, the salary isn't astronomical, but I am really happy and I have time to cook, and truthfully I just can't put a price tag on that, #happinessfactor.
  • I love lists and bullet points.
Okay, that was a lot of words.  Let's get to the food.  If you have any questions, email me at SingleAndServingIt@gmail.com. And if there is something that you want to know how to cook without any fine knives or a top-of-the-line blender, holla.  I'll get right on it.  As Julia Child would say, bon appetit!
